How to use CNC lathe to process engine piston?

Recently, one of Shanghai ANTISHICNC Company’s end customers needed to purchase a CNC lathe for processing automobile engine pistons. The piston diameter is 100mm, the height is 80mm, and the piston pin hole diameter is between 15mm and 30mm.

CNC lathes can process the outer circle, ring groove and other parts of the piston. The piston is subjected to high temperature, high pressure and high-speed friction in the engine, so the processing accuracy and surface quality requirements are high. The customer provided photos of the workpiece to be processed, as shown in the figure:

According to customer needs, ANTISHICNC engineers successfully matched a CNC lathe for the customer – TCK36A/300 model, with a maximum disc processing diameter of 360mm. The maximum bar processing length is 300mm, and the processing accuracy can reach T6 level. The following are the basic parameters of TCK36A:

1.Rough turning: A rough turning operation is performed to remove excess material and create a basic cylindrical shape.

2.Precision turning: Precision turning operations are performed to obtain the required size (100*80 mm) and surface finish.

(1)End face: Create a flat surface at the end of the bearing.

(2)Boring: Enlarging a hole or creating an internal cylindrical surface.

(3)Grooving: Cut grooves for retaining rings or seals.

(4)Finishing operation: Apply finishing cutting to achieve final surface finish and dimensional accuracy.

3.Quality control and inspection

(1)Dimensional inspection: Use precision instruments (such as micrometers, calipers) to measure key dimensions.

(2)Surface finish inspection: Check the surface roughness to ensure it meets specifications.

(3)Hardness test: If the bearing material has requirements, perform a hardness test to ensure that it meets the mechanical performance specifications.
